CPDI Announces ComControl: A "Future Proof" Solution

Voice over Internet Protocol... you've heard about it, you've seen it take a bite into profit margins for standard PSTN calling capabilities. Whether you're an existing CPDI customer or just getting started in the VoIP marketplace, ComControl is a "future proof" solution for all your telecom needs.

ComControl marries CPDI's proven rating and charging technology with the latest IP capabilities. All of the features previously available with CPDI's Call Control system are available with ComControl, including flexible prepaid or postpaid account setup, voice mail, fraud prevention, customizable reports, multilingual voice prompts, speed dial memory options, low balance notifications, security PIN authorizations, Web-enabled customer care, customizable rating structures, and more.

One of ComControl's most powerful features is the rating engine. As an operator, you can beat the competition by offering flexible rating scenarios targeted to specific customer bases and updated in a moment to create new pricing features. For example, you can offer:

Flat rates and basic surcharges

Unique rates to specific countries, cities, and area codes (or block calls to destinations)

Varying rates based on the day of the week or the time of day

Holiday rates

Minimum billing amounts, regardless of the call length

Standard per-minute rates

Unit pricing for minutes, units, number of calls, or currency amounts

Point-to-point distance rating

Rating with predetermined mileage bands

In-country (domestic) and international destinations (or block calls to certain areas)

Two-legged rating

Surcharges for additional features as desired

With built-in reporting functions, you can analyze the effectiveness of your rating scenarios, provide core information to management, and implement the next marketing scheme. For complete details about ComControl, contact your CPDI sales representative, or send an email to sales@cpdi.com.

The Future is Yours with ComControl

Investing in telecom technology has always been a serious budgetary consideration. As a service provider in a rapidly changing, fiercely competitive marketplace, how can you ensure that your hardware and software infrastructure is sturdy enough to provide a reliable calling network, yet flexible enough to accommodate the latest features and future telecommunications needs of your customer... and still make a profit?

The answer is ComControl. Based on highly scalable, open and modular configurations, ComControl allows unlimited growth to support your expanding customer base. You can start with a system to handle your base capacity, and as business and marketing applications grow, you can easily expand your platform.

This creates a "future proof" solution, because the system implemented today can accommodate the needs of tomorrow, without major infrastructure changes. All you need to do is simply add additional modules to your platform.

One of the most unique features of ComControl is its ability to handle any type of traffic concurrently. For example, if the majority of your traffic currently is PSTN, you make optimal use of ComControl now for standard call routing, and then gradually convert to VoIP traffic as your business expands and changes without having to change out your hardware. And, of course, ComControl is IMS-compliant. This means that it provides an IP multimedia and telephony core network that meets industry standards and protocols for IP sessions, connections, and application services.

The 'pay-as-you-grow' deployment strategy offers a tangible return on investment for any business, no matter what your size. Using ComControl minimizes your upfront capital outlay to launch your services, creates a lower risk for marketing ventures, and allows your system to expand seamlessly as your business grows.

The Sturdy Framework Beneath Internet Calls

The swift, invisible transfer of data across the Internet meets the sturdy framework of CPDI platforms with ComControl, CPDI's latest product. The gateway for ComControl provides dual-port redundancy to support SIP, H.323, RTP, and RTCP functionality. TDM modules can be added to also support a wide range of SS7, ISDN and CAS protocols for E1 or T1 interfaces.

The ComControl platform can handle any type of traffic (PSTN to PSTN, PSTN to IP, IP to PSTN, IP to IP), on a single platform. IP call traffic can originate from and/or terminate to gatekeepers, gateways, IP phones, and softphones.

CPDI incorporates only "best-in-class" components in the hardware configuration. This translates into savings on several fronts: reduced personnel and facilities costs to keep the platform running smoothly; minimized loss of revenue due to platform downtime; easy and cost-effective upgrades.

The flexible functionality of ComControl can be supported with hardware configurations ranging from small enterprise-level platforms to large scale, fault tolerant platforms with 99.999% availability.

Migrating from Call Control to ComControl

Good news for existing Call Control customers! The IP functionality of ComControl can be added to your existing platform as a module upgrade, retaining the investment you have already made in your existing hardware. In most cases, your database and system administration hardware remains the same, as well as the hardware supporting your PSTN connectivity. All that is required is an upgrade to add the IP-capable hardware to the platform. The version upgrade of the CPDI software that supports the new functionality is already covered as part of your Support and Upgrade Fee.

Call your sales representative today to find out how to "Future Proof" your Call Control platform.

To ensure responsive and effective customer service, CPDI's technical engineers offer the following tips.

Global Dictionary organization: Make sure that your Global Dictionary is organized efficiently. For example, you may want to list consecutively the globals related to similar functions (such as system-level globals), or combine the same features for multiple DNISes into a group. Always make a backup before making changes to your Global Dictionary.

Single pound sign (#):The pound sign (#) serves 2 different purposes in your Global Dictionary. A single pound (#) begins comment lines. These are useful to annotate different sections of your globals. You should avoid typing comments on the same line as the globals themselves. (Number and float globals can include comments if necessary, but string globals cannot.)

Double pound sign (##):The double pound (##) signifies the end of your Global Dictionary file. Do not put any blank lines, characters, or comments after the final ##.

For detailed information about any of these tips, contact your CPDI technical engineer.

A log is a blog... true or false?

Did you know that log files for CPDI products can be accessed through the Internet? While we wouldn't exactly call them Weblogs (or "blogs"), this feature allows authorized administrators and customer service personnel to review transaction detail records. Log files provide detailed information for prepaid calling products, recharge services, questionnaires, fax mail, etc.

If you haven't tried the ease and security of Internet management for log files, contact your CPDI technical engineer for more information. You may find that you like this capability so much, that you may want to write a blog about it!
